Glass Tiger, is run by me Mark Roberts.

I make bespoke, custom, wood/EPS, surfboards that are not externally glassed.

The boards are constructed with hard wood veneers and hard wood parabolic rails, over an EPS blank.

I set up this blog to document the latest boards, developments, and generally any other stuff thats in the mix.

The freak fish

I have just finished another colaberation board with Tim Stafford.
This 'freak fish' has standard bonzer side bites, and a double rear fin, all glassed in.

Its designed for medium sized waves.

I love the stain work Tim has done on this board, its the first board we have really gone to town on creatively speaking.
This board now is freaking for Pete up in Scotland.

The government wants to sell off more than half of our national forests to private firms. This could mean ancient woodlands are chopped down and ruined. Wildlife would have to make way for Centre Parcs style holiday villages, golf courses and commercial logging.

We need to stop these plans. Ancient forests like The Forest of Dean and Sherwood Forest are national treasures - once they are gone, they will be lost forever.

A huge petition will force the government to rethink its plans. If we can prove how strongly the public are against this, they will have to back down. Please sign the petition now.

Wood for Mr Wood

Pauls bonzer.. 3 coats of varnish so far... 2 to go..
The template is based on the Cambell brothers POD out line, clean and simple with a 21 1/2'' central wide point. It has a thinned tail, with a 'hump' to accommodate the fin box.
The bottom contours and fin set up are traditional 5 fin bonzer layout with channels between the side fins...

Tim Stafford and Glass Tiger collaboration

This is the finished 1st collaboration board between Tim Stafford and my self, Tim designed the board and Shaped the blank and did the art work and I did all the woody bits.
The shape is a classic 'clean line', its a 6'4'' with a reasonable amount of volume through out and full rails.
Tim and I are already well in to 'clolab 2' this time one of his 'freak fish' models, photos to follow soon...

Alaia

Just finished this alaia.
Its EPS foam cored in my usual construction method with glass and eco resin over the blank and then a single sheet of Gabon veneer top and bottom.
As always no external glass just varnish.
The dims are 6'9 x 17 1/4'' x 1 3/4''
Haven't ridden it yet, itching too though..

Sunday, 18 July 2010

Lately I've been working on a collaboration project with Tim Stafford.
Tim took this shot of me honing the nose on this 6'4'' Bonzer 'Clean line' template.
Tim specialises in Bonzers, his eye for detail, his forward thinking in surfboard construction and his art work art is all truly amazing.... Check out Tims blog.

Justins 5'8'' fish

This is a small twin fish based on the Xandu wave rocked, the bottom contours are double to v in the tail.
Justin picked the board up on Wednesday, and we went for a surf at Gwithian in some beautiful little empty winter waves.

Oak Veneer 9'8''

This board is a traditional styled longboard with soft 50/50 rails and a rolled v throughout. It also has a subtle scoop out of the nose.

The veneer laminates are oak, and the rails are solid oak.

The board is not glassed but is finished with a pinetar and linseed oil and wax blend.

Henry took this board for its maiden voyage on newyears day 2010, in very small but clean conditions.

The day was so cold crisp and clear unlike our fuzzy new years day hang over heads.
